Bad Weather Make-Up Days
School will be in session on Friday, April 18 and Friday, May 19 to make up school missed on bad weather days. The TEA has approved a waiver for all other missed days.
4th grade students will be taking the writing portion of the STAAR test on April 1 and 2, 2014. Please help your student do their best by ensuring that they get plenty of sleep the night before, eat a nutritious breakfast, and arrive at school on time. If you are planning on having lunch with your student on either of those days, please be aware that the testing session can take up to four hours, which may result in the 4th grade lunch schedule varying slightly on those days.
We meet in the Parent Room on the 3rd Tuesday at noon to cut, sort, and glue Boxtops. This month we will meet on Tuesday, March 18. We will have snacks, but you are welcome to bring your lunch. All parents and grandparents are invited to join us and may bring preschool children.. This is a great way to get to know other parents while helping out our school!
Big Kahuna Fundraiser
The Big Kahuna fundraiser orders will be delivered to school on April 10. The bounce house party for students who sold at least 5 items will be held on May 1. The limo or party bus ride for students who sold at least 15 items will be on May 2.
Info-on-the-Go is a quick program designed to help parents know what will be happening in their child’s classroom and at school during the next 6 weeks. Info-on-the-Go is held on the first Tuesday of each 6-weeks grading period. Our next Info-on-the-Go will change slightly, it will be held on Tuesday, April 15. Our principal, Mr.Thomas, will start the program with a quick overview of the next 6 weeks at school, then we will break apart into grade-level groups where a teacher from each grade level will share information about what students will be studying for the next 6 weeks, provide a spelling word list, and information about where to find resources and help. The program will conclude no later than 6:30 P.M.
First Grade Musical
The First Grade Musical will be held on Tuesday, April 15 at 6:30 P.M.
The Afterschool Reading Club meets on Thursdays from 3:15 p.m.- 4:15 p.m. P.M. Parents, as well as preschool siblings with a parent, are welcome to join us!
Morning Drop-Off Procedures
All students must be dropped at the curb in the visitor parking lot in front of school. Staff will be there to assist students out of vehicles from 7:20 AM until 7:45 AM. Please do NOT drop students in the parking lot, at the crosswalk, anywhere in or near the bus loading zone, or at the curb in the staff parking lot. All students dropped off anywhere except the curb in front of school MUST be escorted to the curb by an adult. Parents and guardians are welcome to park in the visitor parking lot or along the south side of the staff parking lot if they wish to walk their student into school. Please enter through the front doors. The side doors in the bus loading zone are for staff and bus riders only. Parents and guardians are welcome to accompany their child into school in the morning, however all hallways will be closed promptly at 7:45 AM when the bell rings and any adult on campus after the tardy bell rings at 7:50 AM must be signed in as a volunteer. All volunteers must have previously passed a background check. Thank you for helping keep our students safe!
Afternoon Pick-Up Procedures
Vehicles picking up Kindergarten through 2nd grade students will enter the visitor parking lot as usual and follow the line around the parking lot to pick your student up at the front curb. Vehicles picking up 3rd and 4th grade students will enter the driveway at the far north end of the school and will circle behind the school building. They will be held at the gate entering the staff parking lot until all busses have left. After the busses leave, vehicles will move forward to pick up their student in the bus loading zone. All students will go to the pick-up area of the youngest student in their family, so a family with a 1st grader and a 4th grader would only go to the 1st grade pick-up area in front of the school. Please remember that the north driveway can only be entered by making a right turn. Please be sure your car tags are visible. If you do not have car tags, you will need to park and go to the office to show ID before your student will be brought out to you.
The 2013-14 Goshen Creek Yearbook is on sale now through November 15. You may either print out a form by clicking here or click on the link on the left side of this page to order online. The school's order number 19344.
If You Missed Volunteer Orientation
There are many opportunities to get involved at Goshen Creek! Our teachers need help with jobs that include making copies, sorting papers, cutting out shapes, stapling booklets, and much more. Our volunteers MATTER! The time volunteers spend taking care of these time-consuming tasks for our teachers directly translates into more time our teachers can spend instructing our students. We also need volunteers who can come regularly at a specific time and day each week to work with small reading groups and to walk tardy students to class in the morning. We will be starting an afterschool reading club next month and will need volunteers to help after school for one hour each Thursday.
Labels for Education and Boxtops
Goshen Creek collects Boxtops and Labels for Education. Please be sure to collect them and send them to school with your student. They do not have to be pasted to a collection sheet, they can just be placed in a bag or envelope if it is more convenient.
