Expecations of Choral Participation
-First and foremost it is important to me that students become passionate about music, and studious in their love of music. The best thing for every student to bring to class every day is an open mind. Music and art are enriching to everyone. Likewise, a variety of styles and genres can be inspring to each student if that student is open to the possibility.
-Students must come to choir with a pencil every day. (Good musicians remember, GREAT musicians write it down!)
-If a student took music home, he or she must return with it to every rehearsal.
-Choir fees and co-curricular activities are discussed in the handbook, it is the responsibility of every student and parent to read and sign the hand book as it discusses in depth the expectations, guidelines, expenses (minimal though they are) and events that surround our program.
-Please request a handbook through me or your student if yours was misplaced or mislaid between school and home.
-The district Choir and Band grades are designed that daily work accounts for 50% of the credit and performances account for the other 50%. This essentially means that performances are the test grades of choir. While occasionally we will test the students on parts and skills in class, the concerts are required, and if a student is unable to participate in them, a make up test must be arranged with in five days of the concert missed.-Particulars of Choral Ettiquette are discussed in the handbook at length. However, I can ensure your students will enjoy choir, be enriched by choir and attain a greater love of music, if you help encourage your students to attend every class and rehearsal ready to to Follow instructions and actively participate in choir activities. This basically means, open your mouth to sing. Open your ears to listen and open your minds to engage. Choir is hard work, but the rewards are amazing if you stick with it!!
