• First Grade General Information 2016 - 2017 ************PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION CAREFULLY***********Morning Routine:All parent drop off is at GREEN PARENT PICK-UP (Hinkle Gym east end of the building facing the track).Doors open at 7:15 at Green Parent Pick Up/Hinkle Gym.Students not eating breakfast should arrive by 7:45.He/she will go to their classroom at that time.Breakfast ends promptly at 7:40.There will be teachers monitoring all students.The tardy bell will ring at 7:45.For the safety of the children, please DO NOT drive through the bus lane or the west faculty parking lot.Attendance Information:Tardy Bell rings at 7:50.If your child is NOT IN THE CLASSROOM by 7:45 he/she will be marked tardy.If your child arrives at school after 8:10 he/she will be marked absent for the first period.Attendance is taken again at 9:30 AM and 2:45PM.If your child is tardy or absent:Please make sure to SEND A NOTE when your child is tardy or absent.  Phone calls are not accepted as a replacement. Drop off and Pick up:Drop off and pick up for 1stgrade will be at the GREEN Parent Pick-Up/Hinkle Gym.There is no pickup or drop off at the front of the school.Departure:School dismisses at 3:20.DISTRICT-wide policy (approved by the school board):If your child is checked out of school between 2:45-3:15 pm he/she will be marked as an early sign out.Please do not sign out your child early unless it is absolutely necessary.There can be NO changes to how student gets home after 2:30 pm.This helps ensure that your child will get home safely.Each child will be escorted to his/her designated area for parent pick-up, bus or daycare at 3:20.First grade will pick up at the GREEN parent pick-up area (by the Hinkle gym).If your first grader has a sibling in the 3rd or 4thgrade, he/she will go to the RED parent pick-up area with their older sibling.YOU MUST HAVE YOUR “PICK-UP SIGN” TO BE ABLE TO PICK UP YOUR CHILD.If your child rides a daycare van, bus,or walks he/she will go to his/her line where a teacher will be responsible for making sure he/she gets on the bus, van, or is walked safely across the street.Because we want your child to feel safe at all times, there will always be a teacher with him/her.PARENT PICK-UP WILL GO SO MUCH FASTER IF YOU WILL PLEASE STAY IN YOUR CAR.A teacher will bring your child to you and assist him/her into the car.For your child’s safety (and yours) we ask that you PLEASE STAY IN YOUR CAR.It will allow the line to move faster and more safely.Breakfast and Lunch:Breakfast is available for purchase each morning.Lunch and/or breakfast money may be sent daily, or you may pay for several days or weeks in advance.Your child will have an account and you may inquire on the balance at any time by calling the cafeteria at 817-220-2467.Student breakfast$1.50Student lunch$2.75 Guest meals $4.00 Extra items pricesIf your child wants to purchase extra food items-including ice cream-they will be REQUIRED to have a parent note on file in the cafeteria giving permission to purchase an item.Your child will not be able the charge their lunch.If there is not enough money in his/her account, he/she will receive a light lunch. TakeHome Folder:The Take Home Folder will be sent home every day and it is to be brought back each morning. The folder will include homework, completed work, notes, newsletters, and other important information.Help your child make this folder his/her responsibility.Please make sure you initial the behavior calendar and homework log each day.Newsletter:At the beginning of each week your child will bring home a first grade newsletter.It will contain very important information for you.Weekly information will include the spelling words, sight words, and other information.Upcoming events will also be listed.PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ THE NEWSLETTER EACH WEEK.Graded Papers:Each week your child will bring home graded papers.Please make sure to correct papers that are below a 70 and return by Friday.For tests to be corrected, please send a note requesting your child retake the test.Nurse:The nurse has requested that each child bring a change of clothes to keep at school just in case there is a bathroom accident, spill at lunch, etc.The clothes will be kept in his/her locker.The nurse has also requested donations of extra underwear or pants. It would be greatly appreciated.P.E.:As required by law, each child will have physical education every day.Please make sure your child comes to school with tennis shoes to wear for P.E.This is for the safety of each child as he/she participates in P.E.In Closing: It can be overwhelming but, please, take time to read through each note, letter, or information sheet.It will make things run more smoothly for all of us.Thank you, in advance, for your support and kindness.We want this year to be a wonderful experience for you and your child.
