WHAT IS UIL MUSIC MEMORY?
The Music Program of the UIL is designed to support and enrich the teaching of music as an integral
component of the public school curriculum in the state of Texas.
WHO CAN BE IN UIL MUSIC MEMORY?
Any 2nd, 3rd or 4th grade student at SES may participate in the music memory team meetings.
Five students from the each of these grade levels can participate in the UIL competition.
WHEN ARE THE TEAM MEETINGS?
Team meetings will in held in the music room on TUESDAYS from 3:15 to 4:30pm.
Team meetings will begin soon. Letters will be sent home in late September.
WHEN IS THE UIL COMPETITION?
Saturday, January 20 at SES
WHAT IS MUSIC MEMORY?
In this competition, students are expected to listen and become familiar with
16 recordings of music. The music will range from classical, to jazz to modern.
Students will also be expected to know the composers of these music pieces.
In the competition, students will only hear 15 seconds of music (anywhere in the piece)
and then they must identify the name of the song and composer.
ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW?
Music Memory is hard work! Students will receive a CD to take home to listen
and become familiar with each piece of music. It will take time and perseverance
to learn each song, but students will be successful through hard work! We will
spend our team meetings learning tricks to help us remember each song and composer.
