Mr. McPhetrige (Mr. "Mac") is in his 11th year of teaching in the Springtown School District. He assists with all aspects of the Springtown High School Band program, as well as, teaching the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band. Mr. McPhetrige also teaches the 6th grade trumpet beginners. Mr. McPhetrige currently serves as the ATSSB Region 7 Jazz Coordinator in addition to his duties at Springtown high school.
Mr. McPhetrige began playing the trumpet at the age of 11 and has been enjoying it ever since. During his freshman year at Alvin High School, Mr. McPhetrige decided he wanted to pursue music as a career. While in High School Mr. McPhetrige performed in Mexico on many occasions as his youth group took frequent trips to Mexico to build churches and conduct Vacation Bible School classes. In 1999 Mr. McPhetrige graduated #36 in a class of 590.
In the fall of 1999 Mr. McPhetrige began attending Howard Payne University and began to be involved in many things music. He performed in the Howard Payne Marching Band, Winds of Triumph (a touring musical group), Jazz Band, Howard Payne Wind Ensemble, Student Brass Quintet, Faculty Brass Quintet, a Blues Brothers cover band, Wandering Servant (Christian Rock Band) and he also participated and co-directed the Howard Payne Brass Choir. He was also a guest performer with the Howard Payne Acapella Choir on many occasions. Mr. McPhetrige performed regularly as a freelance trumpet player in a 90-mile radius of Brownwood, TX. Highlights of musical achievement for Mr. McPhetrige were a two-week tour of South Korea in which he performed at 21 different locations, as well as a recording session in a Radio Station that broadcasts music into 5 Asian countries, and a performance with the Howard Payne Jazz Band at the opening session of the ATSSB all-state student session, as a Soloist and Lead Trumpet, at the annual TMEA convention in San Antonio, Texas.
Mr. McPhetrige's proudest memory from college was meeting and courting his wife, Sally McPhetrige. Mr. McPhetrige is also the proud father of his sons, Gideon and Grant McPhetrige.
