Welcome to second grade at Goshen Creek Elementary! We are so excited to have the opportunity to work with your child this year! It will be a year filled with new experiences, fun activities, and exciting challenges. This information will help you get acquainted with our routines and procedures.
Morning Routine- The front doors open at 7:10. Second graders go directly to the cafeteria to sit at their assigned tables. Your child may also eat breakfast at this time. Students not with their class at 7:45 are counted tardy.
Lunch- Student lunches are $3.00. You may send money daily or for multiple days. It is always a good idea to put any money in a labeled envelope. Your child will have an account and you may inquire on the balance at any time by contacting the cafeteria. You may also add money to your child’s account by accessing the district’s website (Nutrikids). Extras may be purchased if your child has a permission slip on file and funds in his/her account or money.
Dismissal – School dismisses at 3:20. If you are picking up your child, you will need to wait in your car until your child is brought to you. You must display your child’s name tag. Children will not be released to a car without this name tag. For the safety of all children, please let the office know of any dismissal changes prior to 2:30.
Daily Folder-Homework/Communication Calendar- Your child will bring home a green folder each day. This folder will contain a calendar for communication between home and school. If there is a behavior concern, it will be noted here. Ten points will be deducted from the weekly conduct grade for marked misbehavior. All students have homework Monday through Thursday. The expectation is 20 minutes of reading, 10 minutes of math practice, and spelling word review each night. You can find resources on the second grade website. Please initial your child’s homework log and communication calendar each night. Graded work will be sent in a separate folder each Monday. Please note the district policy regarding the opportunity to redo an assignment or retake a test that is in the Graded Papers folder. Praise your child’s successes and review areas of concern. Sign the folder and return it each Tuesday.Springtown ISD grading Policy states: A student shall be permitted a reasonable opportunity to redo an assignment or retake a test (excluding semester exams) for which the student receives a failing grade. The student or parent must request this opportunity in writing to redo an assignment or retake a test within three days after the original grade is posted in Skyward. Once the request has been made, the teacher will select the date, time, and method for the student to redo the assignment or retake the test. When a student redoes an assignment or retakes a test, the original grade will be averaged with the redone/retaken grade for the final grade on the assignment or test, not to exceed a grade of seventy 70%
Birthdays- Birthday parties are not allowed at school. However, if you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday, you may order ice cream from the cafeteria (at least 10 days in advance) or send store-bought goodies to be enjoyed at the end of the school day. If your child is having a party at home and wishes to pass out invitations, he/she must have one for every child in our class. Otherwise, they will need to be delivered privately. We don’t want any hurt feelings.
PTA- It is very important that we support PTA. They do so much for our school. You may support them simply by joining. No other commitment is required after you join.
You may access information at www.springtownisd.net. Thank you in advance for your support and kindness. We want this year to be a wonderful experience for you and your child!
