• A message from Superintendent Mike Kelley:

    PMK

After graduating from Baylor University in August of 1991, I began my career as an educator in Groesbeck ISD, a AAA school in Central Texas.  During my seven years as a "Groesbeck Goat," I enjoyed teaching social studies and coaching while the Goats won State Championships in football, basketball, track and tennis, and the baseball team made the playoffs for the first (and second) time in school history.  Strong Band, UIL Academic, and FFA programs rounded out the district's highly competitive co- and extra-curricular programs.  I learned a great deal from experienced and successful peers regarding hard work and the contagious effect success can have across all areas of a school environment.  I also learned that elevated expectations outside of school lead to elevated expectations within it.

In 1998, my wife Teresa and I moved to her hometown of Springtown to begin raising our family.  We knew that Springtown’s educational programs had always thrived and that the District and community would have a great deal to offer our children.  We recognized the successes Springtown ISD's various school activities consistently achieved were, again, clearly contagious.  My employment teaching and coaching continued to be very rewarding, but after earning a graduate degree I left the classroom to become an assistant principal at Springtown Middle School in 2001. I was fortunate to begin working with a talented group of teachers, administrators and support staff who helped prepare me to be the campus' principal two years later.  Six fast-paced and exciting years were then spent as Springtown High School's principal with many of the same students and an equally gifted staff.  My twenty years with Springtown ISD have included many personal blessings as well as chances to grow professionally as a bus driver, teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent, and now superintendent.

Teresa and I are thankful to live and work in a conservative community that actively supports our local schools and youth organizations.  Having passed a TRE a year ago, I have complete confidence that the resources now available will allow Springtown ISD to continue to achieve great things.  Our District's relatively recent history includes representation at the State level in Band, Choir, FFA, TAFE, FCCLA, and UIL Academic contests as well as playoff competitors in every sport, and One Act Play.  Our BPA and FCCLA students have even qualified for national contests.  The extraordinary teachers and a skilled support staff are dedicated to enriching the lives of all our students. There is no doubt that current and future Porcupines will continue to benefit from and even extend the standard of success enjoyed by their predecessors.

After graduating from Anna High School in 1987, Mr. Kelley earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Baylor University in 1991 and a Master of Education degree from Tarleton State University in 2001.  He and his wife, Teresa (SHS Class of '88), are proud to have two Porcupines of their own:  Connor graduated in 2017 and attends Texas A&M University; Marissa is currently a Sophomore at Springtown High School.
