Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year!I have 34 years experience as a Family and Consumer Science teacher. My husband and I moved to Springtown in May if 2010 and love this community. We have 3 children. Brian our oldest, lives in Graham with his wife, Meredith and children, Harrison and Cora. They have a dental and orthodontic paractice there. David our middle child, lives in Midland with his wife, Amy and their boys Cooper and Nolan. David is an account and Amy is a diagonistian for the school district. Elizabeth our youngest is a Pre-K teacher here in Springtown as SES. We enjoy spending time with our children and grandchildren as often as we can.I love my job and I love kids and look forward to working with each student this year. This year looks too be a big challenge as we all figure out the learning curve for this Pandemic we are living in. Please be Patience, Perservance, and Adaptability as we all figure out this together.This year I will be teaching College and Career Readiness and Yearbook. These classes are electives and we will be doing a lot of project based learning. Below are brief descriptions of the courses.
Colleage and Career Readiness:(Semester Course)
The goal of this course is to create a culture of high expectation and continuous improvement that provides middle school students with a foundation for success in high school, future studies, and careers. Students explore college and career planning within specific career cluster(s). The students research labor market information, learn job-seeking skills, and create documents required for employment. Students use self-knowledge to explore and set realistic goals. Students will use interest inventory software or other tools to explore areas of personal interest. Students will use this information to explore educational requirements for a variety of chosen career paths. Students will use decision-making and problem-solving skills for college and career planning. Students will explore valid, reliable educational and career information to learn more about themselves and their interests and abilities. Students integrate skills from academic subjects, information technology, and interpersonal communication to make informed decisions. http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/rules/tac/chapter127/ §127.3. Students will participate in a simulated "Game of Life" in which they will find a career, place to live, purchase a car, get insurance for car and rental. Set up a checkbook and learn to write checks and track their expenses. Students will do this through out the year and will even pay taxes and file for income tax. Life skills that will help prepare them for the real world.
Yearbook (All Year)
Students communicate in a variety of forms such as print, digital, or online media for a variety of audiences and purposes. Students are expected to help plan, draft, and complete the yearbook for SMS. During this course students will learn how to properly use a camera, download and upload pictures to be used in the yearbook. Students are required to attend many school events and functions to take pictures to document these events for the yearbook.
