I have been teaching in Springtown for 33 years now and have enjoyed immensely being a porcupine. I was a Fort Worth native up until 1988 when I began teaching 4th and 5th grade music classes at Hinkle Elementary, now part of SES! When SIS began, I moved to the Intermediate School where I have been teaching to this day. I graduated from The University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in Music. Currently, I hold teaching certifications in All-Level Music, Social Studies 4 - 8, and All-Level Technology Applications. I also am a certified Archery Instructor with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Association. In addition to teaching Tech Apps, I also have two after-school choirs - The POJO Choir and The SIS Honor Choir. Both choirs perform several concerts each year and go to to two choir contests in the Spring of each year. I also sponsor an after-school Robotics Club using the VEX IQ and EDR robot platforms and the Codrone Quadcopter Drone. These organizations will begin once the Covid 19 situation is under control to a point where the SISD allows for their beginning, Stay tuned for more information...Starting this school year, we will be using a Learning Mangement System known as Schoology, (rhymes with eulogy) Schoology will replace Google Classroom and will feature assignments in Google Docs, Slides, and Drawings. In addition, students will learn to create original music pieces using a program known as Acid Music Studio. My class also includes learning to write basic block coding for the VEX robots and most recently the new Codrone Quadcopter Drone. As you can see from the images, I am an avid fan of flight, both air and space, and robotics. I constantly use these as resources for teaching technology. As a final teaser to get you excited about learning, I am in the final stages of completion of Studio 19, my professional recording studio as well as producing online live broadcasts of church services at FUMC, Azle. All of this technology will also be introduced into my Tech Apps lessons at various times during the school year. By all means, DON'T TOUCH THAT DIAL, because there's more to come!!!Two Summers ago I went on vacation to historic Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia and to Washington D.C. While in D.C., I made connections with several of the Smithsonian museums and have connected my computer lab with those museums. There will be numerous activities that students will be able to participate in, even from home! The four museums: Natural History, American History, National Air and Space, and the Stephen F. Udvar-Hazy Museums offer regularly online sessions that we will participate in and be able to communicate directly with the presenters at the Smithsonian. In addition, since the launch of Crew Dragon atop of the Falcon 9 rocket by SpaceX this past summer, there will be learning opportunities that will open up for students using resources from SpaceX and NASA!VEX EDR VEX IQCodroneSpaceX Crew Dragon
