Dear Springtown Middle School Parents/Guardians and Staff,
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your patience and understanding during the unexpected power outage this morning. Our goal is always to have school when possible, and at 5:30 a.m., Springtown Middle School had power when the district made the decision to proceed with classes. However, the power went out at 6:06 a.m., and what we initially thought would be a quick fix by Oncor turned into an extended outage with no estimated restoration time.
Our students were incredible as we transitioned them to Springtown Intermediate School to ensure their comfort and safety. If your student was unable to attend today, please know that their absence will not count against them. We also sincerely appreciate everyoneโs patience as we carefully checked out each student to their parent or guardianโstudent safety is always our top priority, and ensuring that each of our 643 students went home with the correct person was our primary focus.
Another unexpected challenge was that Springtown Intermediate School was conducting benchmark testing, which meant we had to adjust the pickup procedures to avoid disruptions. We are grateful for everyoneโs cooperation in using the alternate pickup location near the gym and cafeteria, which allowed the testing to continue smoothly.
We also want to acknowledge the parents who waited patiently while we worked through some initial internet connectivity issues during check-out. Your understanding helped us ensure that every student was released safely. A huge thank you goes out to our local law enforcement officers for shutting down Pojo Road, walking students safely to Springtown Intermediate, and assisting in locating parents and guardians.
In times of chaos, our community always steps up in a big way, and today was no exception. Thank you for your flexibility, patience, and support. We will provide an update as soon as we have confirmation regarding power restoration and plans for school tomorrow.
