Springtown Independent School District is proud to announce that the Board of Trustees has officially approved Littleton Springs Elementary as the name for the district’s new elementary school, honoring the roots, resilience, and rich history of the Springtown community.
Originally called Littleton’s Springs by early settler Joseph Ward in 1859, the area was named in recognition of the Littleton family, among the first pioneers to settle the region. The name reflected both the pioneering spirit of its early residents and the abundance of natural springs and creeks flowing throughout the area. In the mid-1870s, the town’s name was changed to Springtown after a community petition, and it was officially incorporated in 1884.
“Choosing this name was a heartfelt decision for our board,” said Superintendent Shane Strickland. “It connects our newest campus to the origins of this community and honors the families who built Springtown from the ground up. Littleton Springs Elementary reflects the pride we have in our past and the excitement we feel for our future.”
The name Littleton Springs Elementary emerged after a thoughtful and inclusive process that invited community nominations and feedback. Hundreds of meaningful submissions were received, including several honoring influential local figures who have made a lasting impact on Springtown ISD and the broader community.
“The Board took this responsibility very seriously,” said Board President Chris Gilley. “We received so many thoughtful nominations that reflected the heart of Springtown. In the end, we wanted a name that honors our beginnings and reminds future generations where our story started. ‘Littleton Springs’ captures that perfectly.”
The district expressed deep appreciation to all community members who participated in the naming process.
“From historical suggestions to tributes to beloved educators and community leaders, the nominations showed just how much pride people have in our town,” Strickland added. “We’re grateful for everyone who shared their ideas and their love for Springtown.”
Littleton Springs Elementary, the district’s fourth elementary campus, represents both a tribute to Springtown’s early settlers and a symbol of continued growth and progress. The name serves as a reminder that while the district looks ahead to the future, it remains deeply rooted in the community’s heritage and enduring sense of POJO pride.
