As you may already be aware, the forecast shows a possibility of inclement weather impacting our area late Friday night and the National Weather Service just upgraded Springtown to a Winter Weather Warning.

The National Weather Service has advised that the Arctic weather system has slowed, meaning winter precipitation is expected to arrive later Friday evening. While the delayed arrival is helpful in some respects, it also means we may experience a higher likelihood of freezing rain at the beginning of the event.

Current projections include:

0.25” to 0.5” of ice accumulation
2–4” of sleet/snow

Please know that our Executive Leadership Team and I are monitoring conditions very closely. We are participating in multiple National Weather Service briefings throughout the event, including the following scheduled updates:

Wednesday, January 21 – 1:00 PM
Thursday, January 22 – 1:00 PM
Friday, January 23 – 1:00 PM & 9:00 PM
Saturday, January 24 – 3:40 AM, 1:00 PM & 9:00 PM
Sunday, January 25 – 1:00 PM & 9:00 PM
Monday, January 26 – 3:40 AM

In addition to these briefings, we physically drive roads throughout the district, covering all 101 square miles, to assess conditions firsthand. The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority.

You may have also seen on Facebook that I was turned into a Pete Delkus meme — if you know, you know. While it gave me a good laugh, the message behind it is an important one: we truly are monitoring this weather event very closely and taking every precaution to ensure safety.
