Our students put on their detective hats for Math and Reading Detective Day! ๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ๐ Students solved math mysteries, searched for clues in reading, and used critical thinking and problem-solving skills to crack the case. Learning was full of curiosity, collaboration, and fun at Reno Elementary!
๐๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ The Case of the Missing Pojo! ๐ฆ
Reno Elementaryโs second graders became detectives today when they discovered that Pojo had gone missing! Working in detective teams, students traveled through five investigation stations, using their place value skills to crack secret codes, compare numbers, analyze evidence, and follow mathematical clues. Each completed challenge brought them one step closer to solving the mystery!
After putting all the clues together, our junior detectives successfully located Pojo and celebrated a case closed! ๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ๐

Our second graders became Reading Detectives, putting their knowledge to the test as they solved riddles, uncovered clues, and applied their learning throughout the day!

with temples, myths, and games.
Where philosophers thought big thoughts
and people built in amazing ways.
I am not a country today,
but I still have a big story to tell.

One of my favorite parts of planning this day was finding creative ways to weave our Bluebonnet Learning reading curriculum into the detective theme! It was so much fun watching students use their background knowledge, academic vocabulary, and reasoning skills to solve each mystery!
๐ A special shout-out to High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) for continuing to inspire me to grow as an educator and find meaningful ways to make learning engaging!
Thereโs something special about watching second graders become so confident in their knowledge that they canโt wait to share what they know! ๐ฅน๐

Equipped with D-cell batteries, wire, and tiny lightbulbs, the mini-scientists set out on a mission: break the code of the simple circuit.
Here is how the action went down:
The Trial-and-Error Stage: A whole lot of "Wait, why isn't mine lighting up?!" followed by intense wire-twisting, battery-flipping, and double-checking connections.
The "EUREKA!" Moment: The instant that first tiny bulb flickered to life, the room erupted. Youโd think they just powered up the entire city grid based on the high-fives and victory dances.
By the end of science class, every hands-on learner in Mrs. McIntoshโs room had successfully completed a working circuit, leaving them wired for sound, glowing with pride, and fully charged for the rest of the day!
